Mid-century Markel Glass Chandelier – Wheat design

$950.00

Markel Electric Products (MEP) was founded by Joseph Markel (1888-1966) in 1920, located in Buffalo, New York, closed in 1978. We have this special chandelier, one of their finest efforts, an amazing piece of glass, and we are happy to say it is all original and perfectly intact.
The 16-inch shade is thick glass – varying from peach to apricot depending on the light. The whole surface of the shade is decorated with a delicate raised design using wheat stalks and flowers. The stem is also glass and features compatible designs in relief.
As the catalog image confirms, the fixture retains its original finial and ceiling canopy.  No problems.
There are six sockets and each accepts a 60W bulb, or 360W total. That finial at the base serves as a three-way switch that lights 2, 4, or all six bulbs. Or use a modern dimmer switch.
We ship rewired with cloth-covered wire criss crossed down the chain. At present height, this chandelier could serve over a table in an 8-foot room or as a ceiling fixture in a 9-foot room.
