Antique Dome Style Flush Mount Light Fixture, c 1910

$700.00

Here is an antique fixture with classic egg and dart design in either solid cast brass or bronze, very heavy, having an untouched natural dark patina. This is a sweetheart of a fixture for restoring an elegant old house.
The fixture is in remarkably good condition for its age, c 1910. To avoid polishing chores, many brass fixtures were painted brass, as here. There are a couple of light scuff marks on the paint that add to its vintage character.
The thick glass insert was called “pressed cut”, pressed glass with a complicated and beautiful design to imitate cut glass. It is lightly etched on the inside with no loss to the etching. The advantage of etched glass in this instance is to obscure the source of the light, three bulbs with a mess of wires as you can see.
Changing light bulbs is a matter of dropping down the shade ring. We show that side of the fixture for you to examine. You can see the small slide latch that secures the shade ring to the ceiling mount. Using long lasting LED bulbs with an enclosed design should require little upkeep once installed.
This is a strong, well-made fixture. We have installed new sockets. There is the open iron grid to allow the heat to escape but this is still an enclosed fixture so the new cooler, long lasting light bulbs make this fixture quite practical.
