The extraordinarily elaborate design of these sconces combines art nouveau and art deco elements. They were hand painted some 80 years ago using a complex symphony of subtle colors borrowed from nature. Condition is surprisingly wonderful, a little faint chipping, paint still glossy. It reminds us of an old enameled wood carving.
One of the special features of these sconces is the long “tail” at the bottom making them 15″ high. Notice that the “tail” doesn’t lay against the wall but stands 2 inches away from it. Another is that the beauty of the sconce is not wasted by being hidden behind the shade. They are a great example of American design if that is what you want and can afford. Yes, because they are rare and exceptional and in wonderful original condition, they are comparatively expensive.
Shades are original, design is in the glass, not painted on, and in excellent condition.
