Antique Kopp Glass Basket Pendant Pair

$1,350.00

We have preserved these fixtures for restoring an antique house. pressed glass baskets with a baked on hand painted finish. A very grainy picture is included of an old ad for this fixture, labeled “Sun Parlor”.  The shades are often attributed to Consolidated Glass, but they were actually made by Kopp Glass, both companies making fine glass products in Pennsylvania. Kopp Glass, Inc. is still operating in Pittsburgh, making red glass.  In 1890, Nicholas Kopp invented Selenium red glass which is still the standard today. Kopp worked for Consolidated Glass for a period before founding his own company in 1900 and may have been influenced by them in designing this unique thick but light glass basket weave form.
In good vintage condition, fixtures are brass, no dents, original patina intact, obviously antique. Last picture, a canopy, shows the colors of the fixtures which can’t be seen in the other pictures. As you can see, the colors are still remarkably all there, just touches of red and green.  The wicker pattern is highlighted with a little bit of green wash.
Brass bells were added to each fixture above the lacey “crowns”, to provide the illusion of a long shade holder. Both of these bells have stress marks. Stress marks are often seen in old fixtures and aren’t relevant here or remarkable.
Measurements are 25 in. long and 10 in. wide, rewired with vintage style cloth wiring. We can add 6 inches of chain if needed. This is the original thick iron chain, small and rounded, no issues.
Price is for this remarkable, rare pair.
