Riddle Silvery 5-Light Art Nouveau Chandelier

$750.00

Polychrome finish on aluminum, in wonderful original condition, a really gorgeous example of lighting by the famous Edward N. Riddle Lighting Company of Toledo, Ohio, c 1920’s. This is one of our favorite light fixtures. It has an ethereal quality, art nouveau flourishes, silvery curves changing in the light. The structure itself is sparse which also lends a lightweight airy quality, perhaps for a summer room with gauzy sheers and soft color palette.

Riddle’s intricate designs took advantage of aluminum’s light weight and ability to replicate fine detail. Most of these fixtures were given a silvery finish accented by small touches of color. This fixture is no exception, a little silvery gold high lighting with touches of red and green.

The fixture still has its original high quality plain candle covers and original wiring. The wiring is another example of the quality of the Riddle company’s product, very much like conduit, protected inside a metal cable and as good as new. The fixture chain will be wired when buyer determines his or her requirements, presently perfect for 9-foot ceilings or over a dining room table. It is rare to find an intact original chandelier from this period and in such fine condition. VBU 31
